The Journal - September 19 - September 25, 1999

Memoirs of a BaddGrrl

9-25-99 Early Saturday Morning

I've set up my OfficeCam so that it's streaming now.    At first it was totally bogging down my PC because there were so many people watching the cam.  I decided to move the cam to another machine that will be dedicated to camming only.   Phew!

So what's been going on with me?   Well, everyone's noticed the new journal updates.   Finally.   Yes, been pretty good about that lately.

Today was a weird day.  At lunch I went to this restaurant close to my office.  I don't think it's a very popular restaurant, at least I had never heard of it before.   But as I walked in, I think I saw one of my ex's ex there.   I didn't want to stare at her so I sat facing the other direction and didn't look over that way the rest of the meal.   It was just a bizarre coincidence.   Then about 15 min later, one of my exes ( a different ex) walked into the restaurant!   Now that really freaked me out.   I haven't talked to him in a while and although things between us are fine, I felt funny seeing him.  I don't think he saw me though and he sat at a table further back in the restaurant.    So it was just a very bizarre coincidence to see two people from my past within 15 min and in a very unexpected place.

In general, I would have to say I'm pretty happy right now.  Maybe happier than I've been in a while.   Maybe because I feel like I'm finally doing something that I like and I'm in a good place in my life.   I feel like I'm pretty self-sufficient and I don't need to depend on anyone else right now.

That's a good thing, right?

Oh, speaking of ex's, I exchanged emails with one of my other ex's exes a few days ago.    I know, it sounds like I have a lot but it's really only 5 exes total. Anyway, she and I bonded while talking about him so we have some sort of mini support group.   Anyway, I felt bad when she was telling me that he was still harassing her and stuff but at the same time, I felt relieved that it wasn't me.  I hope he leaves her alone.   I think I got off easy.

Hmmm, I think I'm babbling too much.  Must have been the sake I had at dinner.  Ok, better run now.  Sayonara.

9-23-99 Thursday

Tried looking at the camera and smiling today.   Came out as more of a smirk.

I haven't been to any other personal sites or journals in ages but today I ventured over to the Gabzter's site to see what she's been up to and I found this pretty cool site called ii stix.  What was really neat was that they had pictures up of a few people I recognize like Michelle and Liezel and of course, the Gabzter herself.  I was like, HEY! I know them!

It's a neat little Asian Zine.  Check it out...

Had a little chat with my new friend Walt today.   He was very helpful with a little project I'm working on.  Very resourceful fella.   I won't tell you about the little technical difficulty he had.  He he.

9-22-99 Wednesday

I got this in an email from my buddy Lisa Q the other day. I thought it was pretty cool:

Eleanor Roosevelt wrote:
Many people will walk in and out of your life,
But only true friends will leave footprints in your heart.
To handle yourself, use your head;
To handle others, use your heart.

Anger is only one letter short of danger.
If someone betrays you once, it is his fault;
If he betrays you twice, it is your fault.

Great minds discuss ideas;
Average minds discuss events;
Small minds discuss people.

He who loses money, loses much;
He who loses a friend, loses much more;
He who loses faith, loses all.

Beautiful young people are accidents of nature,
But beautiful old people are works of art.

Learn from the mistakes of others.
You can't live long enough to make them all yourself.

Friends, you and me....
You brought another friend....
And then there were 3....
We started our group....
Our circle of friends....
And like that circle....
There is no beginning or end....

Yesterday is history.
Tomorrow is mystery.
Today is a gift.

It's National Friendship Week.
Show your friends how much you care....
Send this to everyone you consider a FRIEND.
If it comes back to you, then you'll know you have a circle of
friends.

I received this screen capture from Stephen Sink today...

Whoa!  Not a pretty sight.  Makes me look like I have Austin Powers teeth.

Alan Nozaki also noticed that I was eating Doritos while on the cam and said that it made him want some too.  Hmmm, maybe I should look for sponsors and advertisers for product placement.   I just hope Jenni Craig doesn't call me up and say, "Ya know, I know the camera adds a few pounds but still... let me send you some of my 'cuisine' to munch on on the camera..."

9-21-99 Tuesday

I exchanged a few emails today with Scott Adams the creator of Dilbert.  Or at least I think it was Scott Adams.   Either that or a very savvy sock puppet.  Speaking of which, I was toying with the idea of sending in a sock puppet picture to the Dilbert site today.   I was going to remove one of my socks and get a little "creative" with it on the cam but I was afraid I'd offend my co-workers.   Unlike Macromedia, where offending Fredlet was actually one of my daily goals.  I think my manager actually wrote that into my job description. See with Fredlet, taking off my sock, sticking my foot over the cubicle and wriggling toes at her would not be out of the ordinary.

Ask her about my little "hula skirt" dance.   Go ahead, ask her.

I don't think a day went by when Fredlet and I didn't say to each other, "You are SO weird."   "No YOU'RE weird."  "No, YOU."  "No, YOU."

I think tomorrow I'm bringin in my "fancy" socks...

I wasn't sure if I should mention this in my journal or not.  I started to yesterday but decided not to.  But I was talking to Dave Lau via ICQ today and the subject came up so...

I was physically harassed on my way to my car and I was pretty disturbed by the fact that this person had the audacity to do this in broad daylight.    Unfortunately when the incident happened, I was wearing a long skirt, sandals and carrying a semi-large briefcase so I was somewhat vulnerable and not prepared.   I mean, who is prepared to be assaulted on a busy street in the middle of the day?   Anyway, Dave Lau ICQ'd me today and asked, "did you bring a hammer with you to work today? in case your friend was out there again?"  I told him, "no but I did dress more comfortably. something I could engage in battle in."

So if I see that slimebag again, I'm gonna turn him into a soprano.

Today's Journal/Cam pic, because... hey, why not?

9-20-99 Monday

First of all, thanks to everyone for sending in their resumes and expressing interest in the jobs available at my new company.  For those of you who have missed the post, my company is hiring!  We need everything from web designers, content producers (like me!), system administrators, administrative help, human resource people, everything.   If you're interested in working at a really cool Internet startup company in San Francisco, please your resume to jobs@baddgrrl.com. These positions are all in San Francisco and unfortunately, any relocation costs will be at the hiree's expense.

After much feedback from visitors/viewers, I've decided to enlarge my webcam image size.   Everyone agreed, bigger is better!   So for your viewing pleasure...  Tada!   The new and improved 320x240 cam image!

Ok, next time I'll smile.
