My name is Lorraine and I live and work in the San Francisco Bay Area. I work as a Technical Producer at TiVo. I'm Chinese American, born and raised in San Francisco. Read my 'About Me' page for more information about me.
I originally created this site just to share a little about myself, just as most people do with their Home Pages. I, however, wanted to go beyond the basic "My name is ________ and my interests are________" motif. I wanted to give people a glimpse into my life and get a feel for who and what I am.
When I started this page I knew next to nothing about HTML and web page design. I started looking at the source code of other HTML pages and did a lot of cutting and pasting. I became intrigued with all you could do with HTML and JavaScript. As time went on, it just grew and grew.
That was just an alias I came up with. I originally thought of the name when I bought my motorcycle in 1995, before I created this web site. I thought about getting a Vanity License plate with that name but never did. Now I use it as my Web Name.
Well, I'll let you be the judge. Bad is really relative isn't it? Bad can be good. I like to think I'm bad in a good way.
I had considered putting one up when I bought my Sony Digital Camera but didn't want to spend an additional $300 for a video capture card. Then in February my friend, Fredlet, showed me her Connectix QuickCam and said it was fairly cheap and didn't require any additional hardware. I looked around on the web and discovered a world of webcams out there and was amazed at the technology. Using HTML and a digital camera, people could send out live images of themselves and people from all over the world would be able to see them through the internet.
I was totally intrigued with the idea. I bought one immediately and discovered that it was incredibly simple to set up. I wanted the images to update quickly so that it would appear "live" rather than having updates every 1-5 minutes as other webcams do.
So it was really the technology behind the webcam that motivated me to set this whole thing up. Now it's become an integral part of my Web Site.
Yes, all the images you see on my Webcams are *LIVE*. I do not put old images on the camera screen. If you see me sitting there, that is really me in the flesh. I may create another page with archived camera images but those will be still shots and labeled as such.
Yes. Unless you send an ICQ page and it gives you an error message, most likely I have received your message. As you may expect, I am a VERY busy person. I work during the day and when you see me on the OfficeCam I don't have time to respond to all my messages. Sending me 7-8 messages in a row is not going to elicit a response from me. You will only be ignored.
Actually my time is very limited. The only time I may be available to chat is when I log into my Chat Room. I will post my Chat Room hours on my main page. Please DO NOT send me any messages asking me to log into the Chat Room.
I was at first. It can be unnerving as you would imagine, having strangers from all over the world watching me, sending me messages and asking me questions. Now I'm used to it. Of course I am somewhat conscious of what I do when in front of the camera. But as they say, some people have their 15 minutes of fame, these are my 15 Megabytes of fame. Thanks for sharing in it.
